Sid Meier's Civilization IV, the fourth installment of the series, starts the player, like in the previous games, with a single village in the Stone Age and has them advance from there by exploring, founding cities, researching, exploiting natural resources and eventually trading or making war with neighbouring civilizations. While Sid Meier's Civilization III put cultural influence in the forefront, this time it is religion that is put forward as a new factor underlying many aspects of the game.

In addition, Sid Meier's Civilization IV attempts to streamline gameplay by removing some features (corruption, pollution) which slowed down the late stages of the game and making significant changes to the combat system so that tactical thinking plays a more important role. Units now have a single combat value instead of defense and attack values, have a special ability and can be further enhanced with experience in a player-defined way.

The game also offers some aesthetic improvements such as a detailed 3D map, environmental ambiance and animated units.

In contrast to Patrician II, this game is about adventure, exploration and sea battles. The depth of play of the trading and economic system is decreased accordingly. However, trade still remains the main driving force behind the game.
You start out as a simple sailor on a small ship in a local region. At first you explore the world and trade between towns friendly to each other. The aim is to acquire both gold and status; enough to eventually become a governor yourself.
Over time you will gain the increasing interest and goodwill of other governors. You will be able to further enlarge your riches with the initially easy orders and missions that they provide you with.

Port Royale offers the player many different types of buildings or factories and a variety of production workshops. Countless buildings have their own unique and very specific function; from the small shipyard and the corner pub right up to the governor's palace. So players can have their ship repaired in the shipyard, get the newest gossip from the pub or request a privateering letter from the governor.
After the player has established their own warehouse, they can start thinking about establishing workshops. For this a decision is required on whether to tend to the physical welfare of the population or establish plantations of tobacco, cocoa or sugarcane for export the Old World.

Stronghold Legends takes the castle building RTS (real time strategy) series and plunges it into myth and legend, and was released October 2006. Single player campaigns include King Arthur, a Rhine campaign and Dracula adding creatures like werewolves, frost giants, dragons and many .
Multiplayer is improved,which is now focused more on combat than its predecessor, with the addition of new modes, such as king of the hill (literally build a castle on a hill and defend it for as long as you can), capture the flag, and an economic-war mode that tasks you with certain goals, such as being the first to gather X number of wood planks. This will mean that you will have to balance offense with defense, as you may realize that the only way to stop your enemy from reaching the goal first is to attack and knock him off balance.

The civilians buildings that were present in Stronghold 2 are now gone, the remaining were remade in terms of function and honourly events such as jousting, travelling fairs and dances are removed entirely, only existing as a Random Event.

Mercenary units are no longer usable, with the exception of Outlaws, and rarely, Pictish Boat warriors. Trebuchets can be dismantled and relocated, then constructed again, Lord's health slowly regenerates over time, the circle formation is gone, and the recruitable troop types are very little, consisting of the regular units, the prices for buildings are now increased, the sawpit is replaced by a woodcutter's camp, now having 3 lumberjacks, delivering the same amount of wood as the saw pit worker, statues now cost "glory" points, which can be accumulated by melee combat and there are only 3 keep types, each for the corresponding faction.
